Every day, animals arrive through our doors lost, frightened and often in pain.
As soon as a call comes through about tiny puppies or kittens that are too young to fend for themselves… it’s all hands on deck at the RSPCA.
From four-hourly feeds, and dedicated carers to act like their mum, these little orphans depend on warmth, love and sustenance to survive.
It’s hard to comprehend that someone was so callous as to dump 12 puppies by the roadside when they were just two weeks old.
Puppies so small you could fit them in the palm of your hand… their eyes and ears only just starting to open.
Had kind-hearted souls not found them in time, they wouldn’t be here to tell their tale.
This Christmas, you can step in and become an animal’s Guardian Angel. Your thoughtful donation will go toward an animal in our care right now. A pet who may not have a loving new family in time for Christmas, but who will have you by their side while they wait.
When you support the RSPCA, you’re helping miracles of Christmas come true. And that was the case for Porkie, Turtle and Roo…
“You can feel the crackle of nervous energy when a litter of newborns is coming in. There’s a flurry of activity,” says RSPCA Vet Sam.
“Humidicribs are turned on, milk powder and tiny bottles at the ready…”
At two weeks old, the 12 abandoned puppies that were rushed into our care were essentially helpless.
Too young to wag their tails or yelp, all they could do was wriggle and squeak.
Vet Sam and the team examined and weighed every pup, then began bottle feeding them every four hours. At the same time, the call went out to our volunteer network of experienced neonatal foster carers.
Our team of vets, nurses and animal attendants do an amazing job, but foster carers can bring even more comfort and warmth to animals in a home environment.
Taking on orphaned puppies is a huge commitment. But luckily, experienced foster carer Nadia was happy to take on the challenge of raising Porkie, Turtle and Roo until they were ready for adoption.
This festive season, you can help us raise vital funds to cover pet medication, puppy milk formula, bottles, bedding, heat mats, and other essentials for the 1,110 animals in our care right now. You’ll be joining 1,617 amazing RSPCA Guardian Angels across Queensland helping to make a difference.
After many weeks of care love and support, Porkie, Turtle and Roo grew up big and strong and were adopted into loving families.
Here’s Ruby Roo with her new family and foster carer Nadia too.
In fact, the whole litter of pups were adopted thanks to kind people like you!
