The Banksy Vet Clinic located onsite at RSPCA Toowoomba was established to support shelter intakes and animals from the community. We are looking for a highly skilled Veterinarian to establish the function and service at the Clinic to support the shelter with animals generally taken in as strays, surrenders, or seizures. RSPCA QLD vet services conduct health checks, medical treatment, surgery, desexing, vaccinations, and ongoing medical care of animals housed at the shelter.

                  

Please note: This role has the option to be part-time or full-time dependent on the candidate.

                         

About the Role

As a Shelter Veterinarian, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of shelter animals through high-quality medical treatment, surgery, and behavioural care. You’ll work alongside dedicated teams to provide expert veterinary services, including desexing, diagnostics, and rehabilitation for cruelty and neglect cases.

             

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical and surgical veterinary care to shelter animals.
  • Maintain detailed medical records and ensure compliance with welfare regulations.
  • Diagnose and manage disease control and herd health across the shelter.
  • Develop and oversee mental health plans for animals in shelter and foster care.
  • Assess, treat, and provide expert court evidence for animals involved in cruelty cases.
  • Perform a high volume of desexing surgeries.
  • Educate staff, animal owners, and the public on animal health and welfare best practices.
  • Participate in community outreach events and animal welfare programs.
  • Stay updated on shelter medicine advancements, attending training and industry events.
  • Adhere to RSPCA’s Code of Conduct, Policies & Procedures, and workplace safety regulations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or Australian recognised equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of animal welfare issues (local, state, and national).
  • Previous shelter, emergency, or high-volume desexing experience highly regarded.

Skills & Attributes:

  • High levels of compassion for animals and their caregivers.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure with limited resources.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including presenting evidence in court and media appearances.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills for data entry and record-keeping.
  • Physical capability to perform manual handling tasks, including lifting animals up to 10kg.
